Project 2—The back of a Maryland note issued by the Provincial Convention on July 26, 1775. This side of the note is another woodcut by Thomas Sparrow, this time depicting America and Britannia at peace holding an olive branch between them while standing over a banner with the motto PAX TRIUMPHIS POTIOR (Peace is preferable to victory.). America holds a cornucopia, representing the benefits of peace, while a merchant ship on the right–hand side of the note sails towards America's shores on the left–hand side. The legends around include T. Sparrow and LIBERTY.
